PUBLICATIONS

The Unitarian Universalist Religious Education History Group is committed to making information about historic materials and resources available, including the existence and location of items. The basic work for this section was done by the co-founders.

Frank Robertson. He developed a listing and description of over 50 pages of items, which has been included in the directories in this section.
Eugene Navias has a collection and has written about hymnals, with a focus on those related to religious education. His notations are included in the directory of hymnals.

There are gaps in the information on items. Please send information that you might have to uurehistory@uurehistory.org. Also, there are some entries may that seem to be in conflict: multiple entries have been included until clarification can be made.

There are three directories on this section:

The format is similar for all three directories:

  • ID: Identification as Unitarian (UT) or Universalist (UV) or Unitarian Universalist (UU)
  • Title of the item
  • Author
  • Date of the publication with the earliest date given first, if there is more than one edition. The date(s) for periodicals is the start and end of publication.
  • Description gives details that are known about the publication.
  • Theme (Publications through 1929 only). Notes common groups, such as Catechisms. Other groupings may be added as the listing evolves, such as Bilibical.
  • Notes focuses on specific parts of Unitarian and Universalist history itself:
--Various Sunday School Societies, such as Boston Sunday School Society, Sunday School Society, Unitarian Sunday School Society, Western Unitarian Sunday School Society –See Chronology for more information.
--Series, such as Beacon, Beacon Science, New Beacon
  • Location denotes where the material may actually be found, specifically
    AH-Archives of the Andover-Harvard Library
H-copy in the Harvard University Library system
    L-copy at Library of Congress
MU-copy at Meadville/Lombard Theological School Library
S-copy at Starr King School for the Ministry Library
ANTS - Andover Newton Theological School

You are invited to add to this locating information and to contact members of the UU RE History Group to determine availability of material in their collections.

Each of the directories has a sort mechanism for each of the above areas, except description.
